Overview

Improving such an Iconic model as the Kenja 88 wasn’t easy but last year Volkl achieved it by updating both the construction and the sidecut. The Titanal Frame ensures power and grip and by only putting material where it’s needed the ski remains easy to control at slower speeds. The 3 Radius Sidecut works with tip and tail rocker to fuse three radii together for versatile handling in any conditions. The longer radii in the tip and tail provide stability over tricky terrain; a shorter radius underfoot ensures quick turns on firm snow.Terrain Type & Ability LevelTerrain Type It will go anywhere, from medium radius carved turns on groomed runs to flowing turns in fresh snow, but where it will really stand out is when the conditions get rougher. In tracked-out, choppy or heavy snow the Kenja 88 is supremely smooth with impeccable handling, boosting confidence and making it feel like you’re skiing in conditions much more like fresh snow or groomed pistes. This makes it a great choice for skiers who want to spend as much time as possible playing down the sides of the pistes in trees, bumps and powder fields or taking on longer traverses for interesting off-piste challenges.Skier TypeConfident all mountain skiers who a ski with precision, excellent edge grip and impressive stability no matter how choppy the snow gets. The Kenja 88 is also surprisingly easy to ski considering it’s high-end construction of wood, Titanal and Carbon.OverviewShape88mm underfoot is the sweetspot for an all mountain ski, still quick edge-to-edge on firmer snow but with enough width for the float and stability required for deeper runs and softer snow. The 3D Radius Sidecut produces radii of 20m in the tip, 14m in the centre and 25m at the tail for a 163cm model. 3D Radius Sidecut ensures a range of turn size feel natural. A long radius on the tip and tail is combined with a tighter radius in the centre. The longer radii aid bigger turns and higher speeds with easy steering, less tip disruption and smoother turn exits. The shorter radius in the centre makes it easier to execute short turns and improves agility.RockerTip and Tail Rocker uses camber underfoot for excellent grip and response, with tip and tail rocker to aid turn initiation and release.CoreThe Multi Layer Woodcore uses a combination of beech and poplar, resulting in an extremely durable core composed of hard wood in the binding area and lighter wood around. This is reinforced by a full length Titanal Frame that increases torsional stiffness and improves dampening.ConstructionDirect and strong power transmission with full length sidewalls. The Titanal Frame works well with this and is aided by the Carbon Tips.Key FeaturesTitanal FrameThe Titanal Frame with a thickness of 0.7 mm is integrated along the sidewall and into tip and tail area of the ski. This way the ski provides the stability and dampening that every experienced skier expects, at the most critical spots on the tip and tail of the ski. A second thinner Titanal layer (0.3 mm) under the binding delivers the necessary strength to the ski. This ensures the binding screws offer the most reliable hold even in the toughest conditions and the super thin sheet allows a soft flex in the mid-body. Due to this highly complex construction skiers experience a previously unknown combination of liveliness and high-speed stability.Carbon TipsCarbon fibre is used in the tips to increase the strength whilst reducing weight.eB tester’s comments: Rosy (Bristol) LOVe! I could feel how the multi radius sidecut affects the handling. Super stable and they were nimble through the turn when I wanted or I could be lazy and charge through longer radius on fast runs too.Technical SpecificationsSize (cm)Tip Width (mm)Waist Width (mm)Tail Width (mm)Radius (m)Weight (g)1561298811118/12/22*16501631298811120/14/25*1730General InformationSkier Ability: Advanced/expertTerrain Type: All Mountain Rocker: Tip/Tail RockerRadius: ShortBase: SinteredBindings: n/aDIN: n/aConstruction: Full SidewallCore: Wood, Cabon, Titanal laminateDemo: NoSizing Description: Nose level to forehead height is ideal, but longer length is important if there is a bigger rocker or you’re spending more time off piste where the extra stability and float a larger size provides will be beneficial.
